Thermal Transfer System Prints 300mm Web
Width
Medical device producer, Transpack Medical in Blackburn (UK) have installed a Bell-Mark multi-lane thermal transfer printer supplied by Rotech Machines.
Transpack Medical wanted to improve two areas of its overprinting operation by using a printer that would not limit the speed of its Tiromat thermoforming machine The company wanted a device capable of printing all the information it wanted directly on to the top web and so save the hand-application of labels

Thermal Transfer Coding Vital For Efficiency
Coding systems are a vital, yet often over-shadowed area of technology when companies concentrate production line efficiency.
The unit supplied by Rotech, according to the company, met both requirements, as it was able to print the entire width of a 300mm wide web before the Tiromat needed to advance the paper.
Furthermore, equipped with a 128mm wide printhead, the Bell-Mark printer was able to print everything that had previously been on a label.
Print quality was achieved by use of a ribbon grade that Rotech had selected for its performance at high speeds on Tyvek and other medical papers.
Pantone colours can also be matched if a specific corporate shade is required, said Rotech.
Managing director of Transpack, Andrew Micklethwaite, said: "We are enjoying significant benefits with the new printer.
We have no restriction on the speed at which we can run the Thermoformer and we are able to produce a far higher quality of print than before.
Furthermore, by installing the Bell-Mark printer driver, we are able to carry-on using our existing formats and design software with no need for re-training, or conversion.
We were particularly pleased that Rotech was able to install the unit within two weeks of our placing the order." The unit supplied by Rotech is said to be able to print numerous lanes of print on to almost any width of packaging material.
By traversing only those parts of the printer that are needed - the printhead and ribbon transverse mechanism - weight is kept to a minimum, so fast print and return speeds can be achieved.
