The Scott Bader Co, suppliers of speciality polymers used in coatings, graphic arts and flexible packaging, has launched four new products.

The Scott Bader Co, suppliers of speciality polymers used in coatings, graphic arts and flexible packaging, has launched four new products They extend the company's range of acrylic and waterborne developments in adhesive base resins

They are designed for film packaging applications and have been developed to solve the problems associated with blister seal packs and printing water based material on to non-absorbent substrates.

The Texicryl 17-0402 is a second generation acrylic designed to operate as the main binder in blister seal adhesive formulations that support high quality graphics.

This product is APEO free and is also suitable for use as a modifying resin to cold-seal adhesives, providing a better adhesive key to substrates, particularly absorbent-to-absorbent materials, claimed Scott Bader.

The flow, levelling and gloss levels achieved are said to be compatible with quality blister packaging, with seal integrity.

The product shows good compatibility with other products used in compounding the special adhesives, and is specifically designed not to block when stacked, added the company.

Three new water based polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) have also been introduced in the Texicryl UR range, including UR1000, UR1001 and UR1005.

The emulsions have been specifically designed as heat sealable paper board coatings for blister, bubble and film application.

They cover either in-line or off-line application requirements.

All the new products are suitable for heat-seal laminating absorbent board substrates to a variety of non-absorbent films including PVC, PET, APET and GPET.

A high gloss finish is imparted to enhance any underlying print, whilst it is claimed that low film weights only are required to achieve high bond strengths, particularly with the PUDs.

Non-blocking qualities allow stacked storage of coated boards prior to application of blister shells.

All the polymers are said to exhibit low-foaming and low-odour, with good compatibility to other RMs, such as waxes, solvents and surfactants.
