Cooling System Allows Production In
Summer Heat

When European photo-printing company, Photoways' printing machines stopped working for 15 days due to excessively high summer temperatures, the company looked for a method of cooling Photoways needed a system that would not only reduce temperatures but would also help keep paper and ink stable

The solution came with Breezair evaporative cooling, which has reduced summer temperatures between eight degrees C to 10 degrees C.

Having already successfully installed Breezair coolers at its subsidiary company, Photobox, in the UK, Photoways was already aware of the success of the Breezair coolers in printing environments.

Monsieur Depaifve, purchasing and technical manager at Photoways, said: "Our inability to operate the printing machines last summer when temperatures exceeded 32 degrees C lost us revenue and customer goodwill.

In addition, because working conditions were so uncomfortable for our 25 employees we found that they were demotivated and their attendance was unreliable." Rejecting conventional air conditioning as too expensive and inappropriate for the humidity levels needed in a printing environment and aware of the success of Breezair at the group's subsidiary company Photobox, Depaifve decided to install Breezair in one third of the building where high temperatures were a particular problem due to heat generated from the printing machines.

Now, a total of eight Breezair coolers have been installed in the 3,700 square metre single storey structure with cool, moist air from the coolers being delivered via eight-way plenums.

Temperature and humidity levels are controlled by a Breezair IWC (Industrial Wall Controller), which has four different control modes.

In automatic mode the system monitors the temperature and personal comfort setting, automatically increasing or decreasing the fan speed to maintain comfort.

The fan speed can be varied manually in manual mode and the system can be programmed in timer mode to be switched on and off within a 24-hour period.

Fan mode gives the choice of operating the system as a ventilator.

Depaifve explained: "Not only is the Breezair system a lot less expensive to install than air conditioning, it also provides cool, moist air which is particularly beneficial in the printing industry as it improved production quality by enhancing print stability in hot weather.

Breezair cooling has also provided a far better environment for our staff who are now are able to work more productively during the summer months." Created in 2000 the Photoways Group employs around 200 people at its facilities in France and the UK.

The company offers customers in 15 countries a complete on-line service including printing, storage and sharing of multiple photographs, as well as access to its photolab technology. Request a free brochure from Seeley International (Europe) ...
