Australian owned SEP SPrint has gained CWA 14641.2003 certification to become the only such certified security printer in that country.

The certification is administered under the auspices of Intergraf, the Brussels (Belgium) based International Confederation for Printing and Allied industries.

SEP's certification covers production of secure end products for clients in the philatelic, gaming, financial services, proof of identity and embargoed documents markets.

SEP SPrint director, Mark Reid, said: "This is a satisfying result after 20 months of effort and substantial investment in our security systems upgrade.

It recognises how well our people have worked to satisfy the rigorous security standards achieved by a select few security printers around the world." And he added: "In addition to the obvious physical security of our facilities, we've developed systems and procedures that ensure the integrity of product at every stage of the production cycle and sometimes extending to delivery as well.

The nature of our business doesn't usually allow us to discuss in public what we do or who we do it for, so it's nice to be able to have this achievement publicly acknowledged." Reid also explained: "We have some interesting products in the final stages of development in our innovation and technology centre with applications in financial, educational and government market segments, so this announcement is timely." SEP SPrint's chief executive officer, Rod Thomas commented: "In addition, Intergraf certification supports our strong push in to the international philatelic and educational markets.".
