Sherwood Gears Up R and D For Coding and Marking
Sherwood Technology has appointed two specialists in synthetic chemistry to spearhead its expanded research and development into new coding, marking and printing techniques.
Sherwood Technology has appointed two specialists in synthetic chemistry to spearhead its expanded research and development into new coding, marking and printing techniques.
Doctors Joe Gaunt and Chris Wyres have joined the company as project leader and development scientist, respectively, from academic research and the defence industry.
They both have experience in working on synthetic polymer chemistry.
The company said its current investment in R and D is the start of a detailed programme to elevate its product technology, customise it to hardware in the market and to help ensure Sherwood is at the vanguard of development in colour change technology.
It added that the decision is made at a time of developments within the company following its recent launch of its Datalase coding, marking and printing method.
Combining chemistry, substrate conversion and laser energy, Datalase uses low power laser light for the high speed printing of images.
Sherwood has also embarked on a licensing and trade-marking programme to stimulate take-up of Datalase.
It hopes that by fostering long-lasting and beneficial partnerships with chemical, substrate and laser technology experts, Sherwood would have eased Datalase's entry in to existing supply chains.
The company said that its collaborations had led to its current need to invest heavily in to commercial printing futures.
Traditionally, Sherwood had worked with existing commercial printing materials by compounding supplied chemicals.
