Datalase has begun a collaboration with Zeller+Gmelin, an international manufacturer of UV specialty printing inks.

Datalase has begun a collaboration with Zeller+Gmelin, an international manufacturer of UV specialty printing inks.

The partnership will see Zeller+Gmelin marketing a range of inks produced using Datalase's patented, Datalase process, via a non-exclusive license agreement.

The agreement will enable the German based company to develop the Datalase Packmark system and distribute it to their global network of subsidiaries and distributors.

Zeller+Gmelin is a specialist manufacturer of printing inks with more than 140 years of research, technology and experience.

Since 1970 the company has been active in UV curing technology and it has a number of facilities in the USA, UK and Europe together with a network of distributors worldwide.

Datalase added that the UV ink specialist serves diverse markets with its range of specialty inks, including card manufacturers, plastics and graphic arts making it an ideal partner for Datalase.

In addition, Datalase believes that under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will add significant value, combining Datalase's expertise in laser responsive colour change chemistry and Zeller+Gmelin's established experience as a global manufacturer of UV high quality specialty printing inks.

Andreas Rascher, product manager for Zeller+Gmelin, commented: "This agreement will enable us to combine the Datalase chemistry with our specialised UV ink manufacturing technology and global infrastructure to offer a total marking system to our wide range of clients." Datalase Packmark is a patent-pending, coding and marking system for applying on-demand variable information to primary packaging materials.

The process uses a laser reactive coating, which undergoes a colour change reaction when imaged with a CO2 laser.

The company added that Packmark has a range of applications relating to coding, marking, and tracking and tracing, together with brand protection features.
