Datalase, the colour change company, has appointed Robert Sayer as new project leader for the company's 'on product' edible directly on to foodstuffs marking system - Foodmark.
Datalase said that Foodmark will offer a patented 'on-product' marking technique for imaging data, such as 'product look up' codes, 'best before' dates and country of origin directly on to foodstuffs.
As project leader, Sayer has been recruited to commercialise the Foodmark product, which is due to be launched next year.
Sayer will provide technical support to the sales team and customers and he will be responsible for scientific and process development, preparation of customer samples and assistance on customer trials that will be essential to the commercialisation of the product.
The company said that Sayer brings to Datalase experience from project management and research, having worked previously as advanced technologist for Pilkington plc and, prior to that, as a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Birmingham.
In those posts he acquired laboratory, management and computing skills.
Sayer has a PhD and a BSc degree in chemistry from the University of York and a master of research degree from the University of Reading.
Sayer has published a number of critical reviews, results and new analytical techniques in international journals.
One of his earlier successes was his contribution to the development of a new laser based analytical technique for the physical and chemical characterisation of atmospheric aerosol particles.
Steve Kelly, Datalase's chief executive officer, commented: "At Datalase we are confident that Robert's extensive experience coupled with his excellent management skills and experience in project coordination will ensure that Foodmark will be brought to the forefront of the commercial market with its launch in 2007.".
