Datalase has completed a distribution agreement for USA, Canada and Mexico with Ferro Corporation, a supplier of performance materials.

Datalase has completed a distribution agreement for USA, Canada and Mexico with Ferro Corporation, a supplier of performance materials.

The collaboration will see the two companies working together to develop a laser mark-able aerosol containing the Datalase pigment, for applying variable information on to metal or painted metal parts.

Based in Cleveland, Ohio (USA) Ferro Corporation produces materials that are claimed to enhance the performance of products.

The new spray containing the Datalase pigment will be applied on to metal parts using an aerosol and once exposed to a portable low power CO2 Datalase-approved laser, it will undergo a chemical reaction in the pigment turning it from white to black.

The system is aimed at markets such as automotive, aerospace and appliances, for tracking, tracing and barcoding of high value parts.

Datalase said that it is a totally new application for the Datalase process which, to date, has been used on primary and secondary packaging.

Phil Maitland, global marketing and business development manager of Ferro Corporation's glass systems business, commented: "This important investment compliments our existing line of laser-marking materials and confirms our commitment to continuously offering high quality technologies to our customers, whilst ensuring considerable cost reduction and productivity gains." Steve Kelly, chief executive officer of DataLase, added: "We foresee a great interest in the potential use of this new technology for a variety of applications.

By entering in to this agreement with Ferro Corporation, we can be confident that this ground breaking technology will be made available to a much broader market.".
