North East (UK) print company Statexcolourprint, has been awarded the internationally recognised OHSAS 18001 standard for its health and safety policy.

North East (UK) print company Statexcolourprint, has been awarded the internationally recognised OHSAS 18001 standard for its health and safety policy.

OHSAS 18001 has been developed to be compatible with the ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environmental) standards to facilitate the integration of quality, environmental and health and safety management systems within organisations, such as Statex.

This award makes Statex one of the first organisations in the region to achieve a full portfolio of ISO standards, as well as Investors in People.

The award differs from an ordinary health and safety standard as the company's policy is audited by an external body and interviews are conducted with members of staff.

There is a much greater emphasis on the implementation of the policy across the organisation, said Statex.

Sue Charlton, financial director at Statex, commented: "In our industry health and safety is of paramount importance and the culture of the business is geared towards this.

The 18001 award focuses on the feedback mechanisms that are in place within the organisation - anyone can have a health and safety policy but what's crucial is how it's implemented across the organisation, and that any incidents are fed back to employees, and used for prevention in the future." She continued: "Part of our ethos at Statex is continual improvement and the challenge now for everyone is to ensure that we maintain the high standards that we have set in achieving this award.".
