North East (UK) printer, Statexcolourprint, had a double victory at the 2006 Printing World Awards, scooping the best training programme prize.

And Alistair Charlton from Statex was awarded the accolade of best young printer.

Charlton 21, joined Statex as a printer's assistant in July 2004 and has progressed through the firm's ranks.

"It is great honour to be the winner of such a prestigious award," commented Alistair, who was described as 'precious talent' by the judges.

He continued: "I have been with Statex for over two years and it is great to be recognised for all my hard work and effort.

Statex offers great opportunities for personal development and I hope to continue learning new skills and developing my abilities." Two of the final three nominees for the best young printer category were from Statex, with Jonathan Harvey being highly commended at the awards.

Statex also won the best training programme category, which is awarded to companies that demonstrate an outstanding approach to training, aimed at staff of all ages and levels.

The awards come just a few weeks after the company won the Print and Paper Monthly team award and the latest honours are the fourth set of awards that Statex has won this year after a North East regional award earlier last month, which also recognised a commitment to skills and training.

Graham Minett, managing director of Statex, said; "We've always believed in investing in our staff and giving them the best possible opportunities to progress and develop.

Results like this are proof that what we are doing is having a very positive effect.

I am incredibly proud of every member of the Statex team.

For Alistair and Jonathan to be recognised at such a prestigious awards ceremony so early on in their careers is a tremendous achievement.".
