Specifically adapted Sinapse Graphic training simulators are now available for selected models in the Goss newspaper press range.

The simulators cover the Goss Universal 45/50, 75/80, Uniliner and Uniliner S presses The Sinapse Graphic simulators will be available directly as 'virtual presses' connected to the production consoles

The first versions were shown at Ifra 2007 and the full set of simulators will be shown at Drupa in May 2008.

The company claimed that the press console can be used for real production and simulation-based training.

The delivery of the console prior to press installations is said to allow hands-on training to become familiar with the console and improve operator skills.

When the press enters production, the console can still be used in simulation mode, if not needed for production, to allow training to continue without the need to purchase an extra console.

Goss International Nantes chose the Sinapse Graphic simulators for their full modelling of the printing process from paper in to paper out, and for the ability to integrate other information, such as maintenance procedures.

That is said to transform the simulation platform in to a centre for all press-related information.

For example, the simulator can show the effects of a bad knife setting in the folder with the Goss setting procedure linked to the simulator's folder section to show exactly how to adjust the mechanical components.

In addition, simulator users can add their own information to further tailor their training programmes more closely to their own installations.

Eric Normand, president of Goss Nantes, commented: "Newspaper printing sites are 24-hour production environments.

To make them fully efficient, we need to optimise the human resources as well as the mechanical production environment.

A sophisticated set of training and maintenance information in a simulation will clearly be a step forward.

It is because this is such a clear market need that we have decided to make the Sinapse simulators available for our full line of presses manufactured in Nantes." Peter Herman, a director of Sinapse Graphic, added: "The drive by Goss Nantes to optimise to improve overall productivity and to standardise operating procedure is a clear understanding of customer needs.

In addition, simulation-based training for Goss presses will be available and affordable for smaller press installations in addition to large installations where they have been commonly used.".
