Ahead of the launch of the new Xeus 64 server on September 12, Silicon Systems is conducting research in to the benefits 64 bit server processing will bring to the design and pre-press industries.

What the company said that it is discovering is that 64 bit processing is all about capacity and speed, moving bigger files from one place to another faster then before.

In Silicon Systems' opinion, traditional systems usually run 32 bit but a 64 bit system could boost performance by 50 per cent, to the benefit of the design and pre-press industry.

Silicon Systems' Xeus series of graphic servers are designed to meet the demanding requirements of the design, pre-press, print and publishing industries.

The company said that the Xeus 64's combination of high storage capacity and quick file delivery will make it one of the most attractive servers on the market.

By utilising the latest advances in 64-bit architecture, Xeus 64 is claimed to manages high volumes of multiple client requests in a fraction of the time required by some systems from other companies and at a lower price.

The company believes that resources are more fully utilised and processing speeds can soar with a 64 bit server.

By effectively splitting themselves in two 64 bit CPUs continue working when traditional 32 bit systems would be held up.

Unfortunately the occurrences that hold-up traditional systems, such as requesting large amounts of data from the hard drive, or running memory intensive applications, are essential in the daily routine of any design or pre-press studio.

With 64 bit technology, those processes become a lot less problematic and a lot quicker, providing access to large graphic files in a fraction of the time it might take a 32 bit server, said the company.
