Silicon Systems has adopted IBM's eServer xSeries range to complement its server systems to provide an alternative to more traditional graphic servers.

The xSeries range is said to fill a market gap for a server offering scalability, said Silicon Systems.

IBM's eServer xSeries offers a complete range of servers, from the 1U x306 entry-level server to the x460.

Silicon Systems said that it has been particularly impressed by IBM's propensity to push main-frame technologies down through product lines to maximise performance and provide highly-competitive servers.

The company feels that the introduction of IBM in to a graphics environment is a natural progression and that it will bring functional and cost benefits throughout the graphic arts market, whilst providing a practical alternative to more traditional graphic servers.

Extended memory 64-bit technology allows 32-bit and 64-bit applications to run, providing 64-bit migration at an individual pace, said Silicon Systems.

The xSeries also benefits from system management tools, calibrated vector cooling and I/O and storage scalability for maximising performance.

That results in the xSeries providing reliability, added the company.

At the top-end of the xSeries, the x366 and x460 are built around X3 architecture and Hurricane chipsets.

By adding nodes as and when required the x460 allows eight 4Processor systems to be connected to provide a 32 processor system.
