Arnie Sidebottom, ex-Yorkshire cricketer and Manchester United footballer, has joined the sales and marketing team of Knaresborough-based (UK) print, mailing, contract packing and distribution services provider Scriven Park Services.

Beginning in the production department, he is learning about the business and its products and is starting to meet clients, taking quotes and increasing sales.

He commented: "Batting, fielding and bowling may not be on the shortlist of skills required by marketing professionals but I am certainly enjoying the new challenges on offer." The transition from sportsman to salesman seemed a natural progression for him.

He has been involved in commercial business and corporate promotion since his professional sporting days, and he hopes that this background will help him succeed.

"Although I was initially nervous I am excited by the new challenge and hope to open new doors at Scriven Park," he added.

He may have put his professional cricketing days to rest but he stills plays with the Bunbury's celebrity cricket club for charity alongside TV newsreaders and soap stars.

He played professional cricket for Yorkshire - with whom he won the Benson and Hedges cup - between 1971 and 1990 when he became a coach, and he was picked to play for England.

He joined Manchester United during 1972 and played alongside some of the world's greatest players in George Best and Bobby Charlton.

He left the club in 1978.
