Pensord is implementing a full module 25-user Shuttleworth management information system (MIS) amid plans to create a company wide JDF workflow with Shuttleworth at its heart.
The £80,000 Shuttleworth MIS forms part of an overall £4m investment strategy and comes on the back of a second eight-colour Heidelberg SM 102-8P press, which was installed last month.
The team at Pensord undertook a process of evaluating all of the leading MIS suppliers this year and came down in favour of Shuttleworth because it was able to capably demonstrate that it had the best fit for the company's business as an overall package from estimating through to the ledgers.
Pensord commercial director Darren Coxon said: "We are looking to find ways to streamline efficiencies within the business to offer true integration between all of our internal systems.
Not only will the Shuttleworth system be able to gather production data from our shop floor equipment, we will also be able to pass valuable data between departments and thereby minimise operator input while increasing overall efficiencies.
"In essence, that means that where we currently have separate departments for processes such as estimating, invoicing, job ticketing and so forth, we will be able to turn an estimate into a job ticket with just a single data entry." Through its MIS, Pensord will be able to ensure that all of its internal production processes become more efficient said Shuttleworth.
The company can expect to see tangible benefits coming from the increased visibility and control of jobs, improved communications and greater resource utilisation resulting in improved manufacturing efficiency.
"Our customers praise us for the levels of service that we provide, but we would be just resting on our laurels if we didn't look for ways in which we can improve.
The MIS will bring about new working methods that will help us to better evaluate the profitability of the business, and to look at what types of work are most efficient for us to handle.
We can assess the best type of work for the machinery we currently have on site and make decisions about what type of future investments we might wish to make.
This makes the Shuttleworth system a powerful business tool that will enable us to improve communications and analyse data," said Coxon.
Since its management buy-out in June 2003, the Blackwood (UK) based periodical printer has invested in new plant and processes under the helm of chief executive Tony Jones.
Future plans include looking at updating its pre-press workflow and new stitching and folding machinery for its bindery.
The company is undergoing a recruitment drive and is actively seeking a new bindery manager.
