Service Business Forms (SBF) a specialist forms and business documentation printer, has installed an additional Nipson digital printing press for its plant just outside Birmingham (UK).

The company purchased the additional press to handle increased volumes of direct mail work, bar coded business forms, tags and labels, as well as a wide range of specialty applications such as council and election print.

Service Business Forms' second Nipson operates in line with its existing unit for an efficient roll-to-roll, one pass, twin-engine duplex (TED) process.

The flexibility of the configuration also allows both Nipsons to be operated separately.

That enables SBF to switch freely between simplex and duplex systems and provides additional capacity during peak periods, said the company.

"Demand for two-sided personalisation from many of our customers has increased in volume and Nipson's versatile system allows us to serve this trend while continuing to grow markets in simplex variable data printing.

Nipson's highly flexible technology also allows us to efficiently personalise tags, labels and a wide range of substrates," said Rod Trow, managing director of Service Business Forms.

Cold flash fusing is claimed to be a key differentiating technology at the heart of Nipson presses.

Since the technology does not heat the printed substrate, it allows for easy throughput and finishing of a wide range of stocks, including heat-sensitive or self-adhesive materials as well as labels, tags, tickets, and plastic cards.

Cold-flash fusion is also essential in applications that require duplex personalisation, as the paper must be fed through the print engine twice - a process that can reduce productivity if the substrate is altered by a heat fusion process, said SBF.

Service Business Forms' first Nipson, purchased in 1998, helped establish the company in the direct mail market.

At the time, the print management supplier was looking for a reliable digital printing system that could increase its production efficiency and eliminate downtime, while providing greater substrate flexibility.

"Service Business Forms has grown its business through the reliability and flexibility of Nipson.

We are pleased that Nipson can help further accelerate this growth and diversification with the installation of this second Nipson printing system," said Denis Crook, account manager for Nipson UK.
