System Measures Roller Pressure And Nip Profiles

A Tekscan, Inc. product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Feb 6, 2008

Identifying roller contact pressures and nip profiles during laminating and printing, I-Scana is claimed to allow viewing, measuring, recording and evaluation of static and dynamic pressures.

Tekscan claimed that with the I-Scana system nip width, roller contact area and proper parallelism of the rollers can be determined and documented in the system's real-time software.

The information can then be used to align rollers before large production runs, or during maintenance, reducing machine set-up time and minimising product waste.

The company added that each I-Scan system includes software, tactile, matrix-based, array pressure sensors, and a data acquisition handle that performs analogue to digital conversion.

The system offers a USB connection to either a PC, or laptop with scanning rates of 100Hz.

The software is claimed to allow force and pressure data to be viewed in real-time, or displayed as 2D and 3D images.

Data can also be analysed in a range of alternative graphs, such as force against time, or they can be exported in to ASCII compatible programs.

Sensors are 0.1mm thick and are available in various pressure ranges and sizes.
