UK POS and large format printer The Delta Group has confirmed it is to further expand its operation with the launch of a new spin off design agency from its existing in-house design function.

Delta said it has had an in-house design department since the companys inception 13 years ago, a claimed first for a large format printer at the time.

The company's decision aims to further strengthen its design credentials, enabling it to provide comparable services to that of West End of London design agencies working in the POS and large format sectors.

The company believes that the new venture will not only provide enhanced levels of service to existing Delta clients but also begin to develop its own client base.

To support the new venture, the 15-strong design team has relocated to a new purpose-built facility, situated on Deltas 4.5 acre Walthamstow site.

Deltas Andrew Hinton, who has extensive agency experience, will move over into a new role, heading up the team of designers and taking responsibility for developing the, as yet unnamed, venture.

"Historically there have been many issues concerning the relationship between external designers and manufacturers of POS material.

There are inherent complexities within effective POS design including the ability of designers to 'think 3D', numerous substrate issues and in-store assembly considerations, which generalist agencies cannot always appreciate.

That can often result in the client receiving an end product that is poorly engineered, over budget and off-brief," explained Hinton.

He continued: "Our extensive background in POS design and understanding of the processes involved mean that production principles are incorporated into our designs from the outset, on every project." The new design facility is a completely self-contained unit, in terms of production and prototyping, including large format digital proofing presses, CAD table and mounting machine and Delta believes that it will enable designers to provide clients with fully functional POS mock-ups.

Investment has also been made in upgrading technology and software, which includes the introduction of a new company-wide scheduling system.

Hinton added: "The new venture will continue to offer all our clients the benefits of a seamless production process, with backup and support from other departments within the group, such as production and finishing, which is essential during the development stage of a project." Recent projects by Delta's in-house design team have included work on the Tesco 2004 Christmas campaign and for movie company Pixar's latest computer-generated Box Office smash, 'The Incredibles'.
