At the Quality in Print (QIP) awards 2007 The James McNaughton Group became the environmental supplier of the year.

The UK national paper merchant group was recognised for its commitment to the environment and continuing improvements, as well as for educating its customers and suppliers in how they can take action to reduce their own environmental impact.

The QIP Awards are designed to reward excellence across the print media supply chain and recognise companies that have risen to the industry's challenges.

The environmental supplier of the year award also recognises the growing and critical importance of environmental issues within the supply chain.

Tony Porter, group marketing director at James McNaughton, said: "In just two years we have made significant progress in a broad range of aspects within our business, such as reduction in energy use and conversion to green energy, waste management, recycling and distribution - reduced by over a million road miles and the order of our first electric lorry.

The group has also reduced its CO2 emissions by 28 per cent." The James McNaughton Group has an ISO14001 certified environmental management system and is involved in a process of continuous improvement aimed at further reducing the environmental impact of its operations.

The group is also accredited with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) schemes.
