James McNaughton is a finalist in the Green Business Awards 2008 in the UK, for the success of its Sustainable Solutions programme of environmental and corporate responsibility activities.

The James McNaughton Group is a finalist in the Best Transport or Travel Business category for this year's awards, which will take place at Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London (UK) on November 5.

The judges, chaired by professor John Chesshire OBE, an economist and member of the UK Government's Sustainable Energy Policy Advisory Board, were looking for a number of factors when assessing the quality of entries to the awards.

To be a finalist, companies had to prove that their policy or initiative was 'new and refreshing' - either the idea or the way in which it had been applied or executed had to be new.

Companies also had to show the judges that they had approached the policy or initiative in a rigorous manner.

One of the the Green Business Awards objectives is that entrants have shown leadership, originality, innovation and flair in helping to shift British business towards environmental sustainability.

McNaughton said that its Sustainable Solutions programme has achieved a reduction in its carbon footprint, combined with cost savings.

It has also achieved a sense of pride within the company at the steps it has taken and continues to take.

Howard Browning, McNaughton's director for corporate social responsibility, said: "At McNaughton we are rightly proud of the achievements we have made through our Sustainable Solutions programme and would strongly encourage other companies to work with organisations such as the Energy Saving Trust and the Carbon Trust to find ways to reduce their own carbon footprint.

If you are a company that takes responsibility for its activities and can prove this, as we can, it certainly gives added assurance to environmentally minded clients.".
