GBP1m Narrow Web Press For 40th Birthday
Chris Ellison, the managing director of specialist packaging and label group OPM in the UK, has solved the thorny problem of what he would like to receive for his 40th birthday.
Chris Ellison, the managing director of specialist packaging and label group OPM in the UK, has solved the thorny problem of what he would like to receive for his 40th birthday.
He is treating himself to a Nilpeter FA 3300 servo printing press.
Ellison said: "When most men reach middle age their thoughts turn to buying a super-charged motorbike, so they can re-kindle their lost youth, or perhaps a state of the art sound system, or a classic car.
So, to save anyone the trouble of buying anything inappropriate, I've bought myself a Nilpeter FA 3300 servo press.
It's bright, shiny and I'm still busy removing the gift wrapping." He added that the Nilpeter narrow-web label and packaging press, with an investment value of almost GBP1m, will enable The OPM Group to complement and grow the quality of its print capabilities, whilst expanding capacity to meet increasing demand.
Founded 32 years ago, OPM has seven other Nilpeter presses from a relationship dating back over 14 years.
Commenting on the choice of Nilpeter, Chris Ellison said: "A new press is always a significant investment so we looked at a range of suppliers and Nilpeter was the natural choice for us.
Technically, it is a very strong press manufacturer." He added: "Our original FA-3300 has enabled us to produce high end film-based label and packaging products in new markets.
In the past few years it has also helped us to win almost 40 awards for technical excellence from various international trade organisations." The latest version is equipped with synchronised servo drives rather than a mechanical shaft to allow faster set-ups and press operators can quickly pre-set all the main process and production parameters using digitised controls.
Synchronised drives also facilitate the processing of difficult pressure-sensitive paper or filmic label stocks, as well as unsupported films and foils, with variable repeat lengths.
OPM is to stage a series of open events to demonstrate the new press and its capabilities to clients.
