Thinprint, the provider of management systems is now offering a print system for VMware virtual infrastructures The .print Virtual Desktop Engine with its driver-free printing technology is said to create independence from hardware, operating system, application and physical location for printing

The system, developed by Thinprint, a VMware alliance partner, is claimed to eliminate the need for installation of native printer drivers on the VMware computer, compresses print data to down to one per cent of its original size and makes it possible to use mixed 64-bit and 32-bit environments.

Thinprint said that the independence from hardware, operating system and application that virtualisation creates helps businesses achieve savings and consolidation.

The applications are directly connected to the printer hardware by the relevant printer drivers and the operating system is pre-defined, as well, because 32-bit printer drivers cannot be used in 64-bit environments, or vice versa, added the company.

Thinprint said that the Virtual Desktop Engine disengages the inflexible connection between application and printer driver and also makes it possible to use mixed 32-bit and 64-bit environments.

Thanks to compression of up to a claimed 99 per cent, the distance or connection between application and printer hardware is almost limitless.

As for hardware, customers profit by Thinprint's experience in server based computing: more than 30 OEM partners have integrated the .print client in over 200 different devices, including terminals, print servers and printer network cards, all of which can receive and decompress print data, said the company.

"We are excited about the possibilities the Virtual Desktop infrastructure opens and proud that so many customers are already deploying our systems in these environments," said Carsten Mickeleit, managing director of Thinprint.

He added: "The technologies we have developed through product generations let VMware customers also benefit from the advantages of virtualisation in print management.".
