Thanet Press has become an approved supplier to the Kent Buying Consortium (KBC) - a regional group of local authorities and fire services in the UK.

The consortium bands together to ensure that public money is spent in the most effective, economical and sustainable way.

The KBC is a confederation of Kent's local authorities and Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Services that has developed common accreditation criteria where companies need apply only once to be included on the approved lists of all or some of the participating authorities.

The idea is not just to give local authorities buying power, but also to make sure that they are dealing with providers who can ensure the highest standards of quality, governance and sustainability.

Thanet Press, through sister company Corporate Document Services (CDS), another member of the Baird Group, has been included on the list after passing a KBC accreditation process.

A dedicated account manager has been appointed to deal with KBC members, who will divide time between the sister companies' offices in Margate and Chelmsford.

David Hurley, managing director of Thanet Press, said: "We are delighted to have been included on the KBC register of approved printers because they only deal with the very best.

Clients spending public money are legally obliged to meet the highest standards of governance, health and safety and sustainability in all their dealings.

We believe that meeting and exceeding those standards is good for business, good for our staff and good for the environment." Hurley said that Thanet Press had invested a great deal of time and money making sure the company met the highest standards in every aspect of its operations and KBC accreditation was a welcome reward for the efforts of management and staff.

The company has also recently won Forest Stewardship Council accreditation, assuring all its customers that paper used at the plant in Union Crescent comes from well-managed woodland and that there is a certified chain of custody that tracks the timber from the forest to the final user.

Thanet Press has already achieved ISO 9001 (quality and management standards), ISO 14001 (environmental standards) and ISO 18001 (health and safety).
