Five new publications have been launched to explain the learning process.

Five new publications have been launched to help explain the learning process, including an explanation to parents about why their children's work is no longer marked the way it was when they were at school.

Covering topics as diverse as thinking skills, understanding how children understand, through to how to encourage creativity, the books are aimed at everyone involved with the education of children in the UK.

The five books include 'Assessment: the essential guide for parents and carers - a guide to how children are assessed at school', 'Learning to Think: from teaching skills to developing minds - focusing on helping learners develop their capacity to think' and 'Teaching for Understanding: from coverage to comprehension - helping teachers increase learning effectiveness in the classroom'.

In addition, there is also 'Fostering Creativity: a hard look at soft thinking - how teachers, schools and the education system can foster creative thinking more effectively' and 'Different in Similar Ways: making sense of learning styles - examining the effectiveness of the concept of different learning styles'.

The new series of books from Learning Unlimited, Scotland's teacher development agency and published by TSO, are available from leading bookshops, as well as from TSO's own stores and on-line.
