A review of the significance of the Cairngorm Mountains is to be published by TSO, the document and publishing services provider.

A review of the significance of the Cairngorm Mountains, arguably the most significant area for nature conservatism in the British Isles is to be published by TSO, the document and publishing services provider.

Publication of the book is timed to match the start of the formal public consultation on the draft Parks Plan, prepared by the Cairngorms National Park Authority, concerning the Scottish mountain range.

Edited by Philip Shaw and Des Thompson and to published on June 12, 'The Nature of The Cairngorms: Diversity in a Changing Environment', is the work of more than 30 authors.

It draws from published and unpublished sources to present an up-to-date review of the significance of the area's natural features, focusing mainly on those they consider to be nationally or internationally important.

The review falls in to three parts.

Firstly, the first section describes important elements in the Cairngorms, notably its geology, landforms, landscapes, habitats and main species groups.

Each chapter describes research findings, trends and conservation issues for the landform, habitat or species group in question and identifies areas particularly rich in those features.

The second assesses the nature of change, assessing the scale and consequences of climate change, deer management and recreation.

Part three identifies habitats and areas rich in species for which the Cairngorms are nationally important.

The review presents new and unpublished information, contributions from a range of experts in their field, 140 full colour images, over 450 pages and costs GBP20 in hardback.
