Leading UK retail clothing chain, Matalan, has signed a major print management deal with the gl2 division of the TripleArc Group.

The contract, worth £5 million over the coming year, covers an extensive range of Matalan's catalogue and direct mailing print requirements for the UK market.

Colin Passmore, director of The TripleArc Group said: "We have being providing Matalan with a print management service for over a year as part of an outsourcing team put together by Matalan's former advertising agency.

This new contract represents a step up in terms of both volume and expectations and with the expertise of gl2 we now have a great team servicing the Matalan account and a thorough understanding of the specific print requirements of a major UK retailer." Former Matalan employee and now gl2 production director Jon Pritchard will continue to drive the production side of the account out of the company's Manchester office, working closely with the Matalan marketing team in Greater Manchester.

"There is a common perception outsourcing print management is all about reducing overheads and costs," said Simon Webster, marketing manger at Matalan.

"Certainly that is a crucial component as all businesses strive to reduce operational expenditure.

However, what is equally important is the strength of the relationship with the outsourcing companies and the consistent and ongoing quality assurance the print management company can offer.

The relationship we have developed with TripleArc/gl2 over the past year has grown to become one based on a partnership, rather than just supplier and buyer," he added.

With its recent acquisition and integration of print management company, AccessPlus, TripleArc believes it is now in a strong position to ensure it meets the demands of larger contracts.

As the majority of Matalan's catalogues and direct mailers are gravure printed, TripleArc is using its extensive network of European gravure suppliers to print the Matalan contract.
