With concern growing about counterfeiting and fraudulent changes to secure documents, Martin Ruda, managing director of the Tall Group, will advise business leaders on an innovative way to fight it when he addresses an international conference in the USA.

Ruda will talk specifically about Tall's secure distribute then print facility at the two-day Future of Secure Documents conference in Orlando, Florida.

Other contributors to the conference include the US Secret Service and Xerox.

"The growth in counterfeiting, fraud and money-laundering means that companies and governments have to work together to produce and reconcile secure documents," he explained.

"Our distribute then print software and hardware, which we call the Checkprint Solution, enables companies to have complete control of their secure printing needs.

It is flexible and allows multiple file formats to be uploaded from different systems," added Ruda.

Tall already provides the Checkprint to Churchill Insurance, which has endorsed Ruda's presentation to the conference organised by PIRA, the leading commercial consultancy specialising in packaging, paper, printing and publishing.

His talk will consider the decline of the cheque in the UK - volumes reduced six per cent in 2002 though there were still more than two billion cheques cleared last year.

Meanwhile electronic payments promoted by financial institutions are increasing.

Transactions through Bankers Automated Clearing Services (BACS) were up by six per cent in 2002.

"It is clear there has been a move from paper to electronic payment systems but we fully understand that many businesses will continue to rely on cheques for core parts of their operations.

Companies such as ours have had to move with the times, hence the development of the Checkprint Solution to meet the increased security and reconciliation needs of business.

This system is flexible but also offers simple, secure and user-friendly procedures," said Ruda.

He added that other companies now had to consider these new options for secure printing.

Tall is the UK provider of secure print solutions.

The group comprises Checkprint Ltd in Hinckley, Leicestershire and Tall Security Print Ltd in Runcorn, Cheshire, employing 150 people across both sites.

It produces more than two million secure, numbered documents each year, working for many of the UK's leading banks, building societies and financial institutions including the Royal Bank of Scotland, Barclays, HBOS, HSBC, Nationwide and Girobank.
