Secure printing specialists the Tall Group is working in partnership with Brother UK to help businesses cut cheque fraud without major capital investment.

Brother's HL-5150D and HL-5170DN mono laser printers, supplied through Tall have received full Pira accreditation, ensuring resistance to attempted alteration of printed cheque data.

Under APACS (Association for Payment Clearing Services) guidelines, cheque printers must comply with Pira quality standards to minimise the impact of fraudulent activity once a cheque has been printed.

Until recently, only large dot matrix or large expensive laser printers complied with the standard, which represented a significant investment for any company regularly issuing printed cheques.

Tall's managing director Martin Ruda said: "This new partnership enables us to offer businesses seeking to minimise the potential for cheque fraud a highly cost-effective one-stop solution.

Adding Brother printers to our product range will significantly improve the choice available to businesses.

Together with our special cheque stationery, customers can source a complete solution at value-for-money prices." Chris Hinds, marketing communications manager at Brother UK, said: "Our fully APACS/PIRA accredited printers offer an unbeatable package.

By combining secure Pira approved high quality printing with features such as duplex printing and separate toner and drum units, businesses can make significant savings on both purchase and running costs." Brother's printers are now used for cheque printing by schools across Cornwall County Council and have significantly cut printing costs claimed the company.

Cornwall County Council's information management advisor Stephen Murphy explained: "The only mono laser printers that were APACS/Pira approved tended to be higher end models that would typically retail at around ?4,000.

Through consultation with schools it was clear that an affordable mono laser printer was the preferred solution and we were pleased when Pira informed us that the Brother printer passed the test.".
