Print Group Gains Standard For Security Management

The Association for Payments and Clearing Services (APACS) is demanding that all cheque printers meet the standard to retain their approved status within the Cheque Printer Accreditation Scheme (CPAS).

Over the last six months, a team of up to five people, led by Tall's group information technology manager Wayne Carlisle, has worked on the company's accreditation to BS7799 (ISO27001) and the APACS Standard 55, which governs cheque printing.

Carlisle explained: "In effect there has been little physical change to our operations.

But we have had to introduce some new procedures for the way that our work is documented so that we are more accountable.

There has been a lot of work in the background to support the safeguards that we have in place in our information security management systems.

We have had to look at the way that we handle all information - from data held on our IT system to job files kept in filing cabinets.

This has touched all areas of the business." The Tall Group comprises Checkprint in Hinckley, Leicestershire and TAall Security Print in Runcorn, Cheshire.

The printer of special cheques and credits, the Tall Group also specialises in electronic document distribution and secure print software working for many of the UK's banks, building societies and financial institutions.

Tall Group managing director Martin Ruda commented: "Clearly, it was vital that we achieve BS7799 (ISO27001).

We are delighted that the auditors who assessed the business recognised that we have stringent security procedures in place.

Tall was supported in achieving the accreditation by Gordon Davison from Solutions for Quality, following referral by the Independent Print Industries' Association (IPIA).
