Special Board Developed For L'Oreal Packaging

Independent Scottish papermaker Tullis Russell and L'Oreal have launched a partnership to develop a premium quality board - Trulor - for the packaging of L'Oreal's range of products.
The specification follows a process undertaken by L'Oreal in 2001, aiming to establish specific requirements for the overall look and physical performance of its packaging and the boards used as packaging material for perfumes and cosmetics.
The objective was to perfectly match the board to the individual physical and aesthetic requirements of each product, ensuring premium quality appearance and outstanding functionality of the final package, said Tullis Russell.
After a six-month process of identifying and reviewing potential board suppliers, taking in to account factors, such as sector experience, product quality and technical support, as well as the ability to work with converters, packaging plants and marketing departments, Fife-based Tullis Russell was selected.
As a producer of coated and uncoated heavy weight papers and boards, Tullis Russell said it was able to demonstrate its credentials in developing a specific grade according to L'Oreal's requirements.
Those developments took as a base Tullis Russell's Trucard brand, which the company said has developed a loyal following within the premium packaging sector.
Early indications suggest that volumes of Trulor have grown steadily.
The partnership continues to grow through the collaboration with carton converters and packing plants to look for further efficiency improvements, added the company.
Whilst Trulor is exclusively available for L'Oreal applications, many of the development lessons have been incorporated in to Tullis Russell's standard Trucard range.
Malcolm Sinclair, the marketing director at Tullis Russell, said: "Being involved with a company like L'Oreal has been a great learning experience for us.
Whilst they dwarf us in size, we both share a passion for giving customers what they want and for always looking for more efficient ways of doing things.
There's no doubt that being involved in supplying L'Oreal is a fantastic reference for other potential customers.
It is a very successful company that did not get where it is without being demanding of suppliers.
L'Oreal's approval is the most powerful sales aid we could have.".
