The premium coated paper Trucard board has been used for a set of Football Top Trumps cards in a promotion staged by the Scottish Daily Record and the Sunday Mail newspaper.

Scottish papermaker Tullis Russell provided 50 tonnes of its Trucard 1 Matt and Trucard 2 Gloss board for the cards, which featured past and present Scottish football heroes.

The set was given away to every reader over a period of 10 days.

Produced by Winning Moves, the owner of the Top Trumps brand, the cards proved hugely successful with boys and their fathers and increased the newspapers' circulations significantly.

The cards were printed by Richard Edward, specialists in the design and production of playing cards.

Trucard is a solid bleached sulphate (SBS) board, fully coated on both sides making it suitable for high quality graphical applications, including brochures, paperback books, postcards and greetings cards, said Tullis Russell.

Kevin Scott, managing director at Richard Edward, said: "Trucard 2 is the best coated material available for production of our card range.

Its excellent surface allows for consistent print quality and its strength and extra rigidity are ideal for conversion to finished product." Tullis Russell said that the Trucard brand has acquired a loyal following amongst the printer and designer communities who demand outstanding levels of whiteness and brightness, together with smooth glossy printing surfaces.

Trucard is FSC accredited and fully recyclable.
