Tailor-Made Timsons Book Press Boosts Throughput
Timsons' 100 years of experience in printing machinery design has been combined with William Clowes' 200 years of printing expertise to create a new force in consumer book production.
Timsons managing director, Peter Brown, said: "We are the recognised world leader in one-colour and two-colour custom built book presses and the T14 is a logical extension of our capability.
We believe this is the first four-colour web press designed specifically for book production." He added: "The T14 is engineered with short-run work in mind, and incorporates the same technology as our successful T48 range for one-colour and two-colour work.
The first T14 is already at work and two more are on order for European customers." The new press can be used for two-colour work with the Zero Make Ready (ZMR) feature that won Timsons The Queen's Award for Enterprise earlier this year.

New Pkate Setter Sets Pace For $2 Million Orders
A.B Dick's Vector TX52 chemistry-free thermal metal plate setter helped to attract $2 million in orders at Drupa.
To enable production of the new press, Timsons has invested GBP1 million in the building of a new high bay assembly hall and research facility.
The project also included the relocation of components and finished parts and has included the installation of three automated storage units.
With an active height of five metres, the units maximise the use of floor area and the computerised storing and retrieval methods improve workflow efficiency and accuracy, said Timsons.
The additional 945 square metres (over 10,000 square feet) assembly building at Timsons' Kettering (UK) headquarters was needed to accommodate the height of T14 presses and to extend capacity to meet a full order book.
The company added that the new building is another step in a programme of continual investment in facilities.
In recent years more than GBP 3 million has provided a new foundry, new tooling for parts manufacturing, a fitting shop extension and additional office accommodation.
The award, for innovation, was the company's third, following the granting of awards in 1992 and 2002 for achievements in international trade.
Timsons said that the ZMR delivers genuine zero make-ready on one-colour books and is the result of a continuing customer-driven development programme to reduce the cost of book production by maximising productivity and reducing waste.
Timsons has been involved in the manufacture of printing machinery for almost 100 of its 110 years and it has specialised in the design and manufacture of bespoke book printing presses for over 50 years.
Timsons remains family owned and employs over 200 people.
The company markets book printing presses worldwide and has subsidiary sales and service companies in the USA and Italy.
