Streamlining Worflows For Navigation Charts
The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has bought a Luscher Flexpose 75 and two Luscher Xpose 160s complete with plate handling systems.
The new premises will be one of the largest purpose-built web offset plants in the country encompassing pre-press, printing, binding, packing and dispatching under one roof, according to TPT.
NJP prints consumer magazines for some of the largest publishers in the UK, including National Magazines, EMAP, IPC Media and BBC Publications.
The company also prints catalogues and brochures for Kingfield Heath, Spicers, Maplin and Norwich Union.
"Following the birth of NJP last year, we needed to buy new CTP hardware to complement our press investment program.
We put a lot of energy in to evaluating what high-volume, flexible format CTP devices are available on the market and benchmarked the Luscher against several other manufacturers' VLF devices.
For the Luscher demo we visited a site in Paris where the set up was exactly the automated vision NJP were aiming to achieve - two robot fed Luschers supporting KBA presses," commented David Medler, commercial director of NJP.
The two new Luschers, which replace two Creo devices, will image plates from 650mm x 550mm up to 2,030mm x 1,485mm in size and are expected to produce 500 plates per day within a purpose-built environment at the new NJP site.
They will supply plates to the company's six, four-colour and six-colour presses including two new KBA 818, 64pp presses to be installed in the new print centre.
"The Luscher XPose! scores highly with its simplicity of design, few moving parts, visibility of all working components and open drum technology.
Over the past three years, Luscher has become the largest supplier of VLF devices in the UK selling over 40 VLF systems in that period - replacements for existing VLF CTP systems being a large percentage of our sales," commented Martin Mayo of TPT.
And Medler added: "We have built up a strong confidence in TPT as a systems supplier and integrator that offers excellent service and great commitment.".
