North East (UK) large format printer Simpsongroup has invested in a fully-automatic Luscher Xpose 190 VLF CTP system supplied by UK distributor Turning Point Technologies.

The thermal, internal drum device, is claimed to be the first platesetter that images and punches at the same time and is part of the Simpsongroup's £7m investment in its new 4.5-acre factory site due to open next January.

Simpsongroup has been providing promotional point of sale material and advertising to brand manufacturers, retailers and advertisers for 30 years, including Marks and Spencer, Thomson, WH Smith, The Officers Club and Greggs.

The new platesetter will produce plates for a MAN Roland 90 XXL press, which is due to be installed at Simpsongroup's new factory next year.

Commenting on the order, Mark Simpson, managing director of Simpsongroup, said: "As the latest addition to the company's continuing investment, this Luscher VLF system has some very innovative qualities and will provide optimum levels of efficiency to our new site." Martin Mayo, the business development director at TPT, explained: "Dependability and accuracy are excellent with this device.

The punch is the imaging reference point, therefore the accuracy of the image does not depend on the plate.

The Luscher XPose scores highly with its simplicity of design, few moving parts, visibility of all working components and open drum technology.

Luscher has become the largest supplier of VLF devices in the UK selling over 40 VLF systems in three years - replacements for existing VLF CTP systems being a large percentage of our sales.".
