The graphic department at Corus, the UK's largest steel producer, has invested in a RSH-1650 wide-format laminator provided from Total Print Finishing Services (Total PFS).

The graphic department at Corus, the UK's largest steel producer, has invested in a RSH-1650 wide-format laminator provided by print finishing systems supplier Total Print Finishing Services (Total PFS).

The installation of the RSH-1650 has already helped to cut Corus's graphic department's costs and turn-around times and to enhance its finishing capabilities and productivity, said Total PFS.

Phil Davies, graphics officer at Corus, commented: "Our investment in the RSH-1650 wide-format laminator has enabled us to provide greater finishing services to Corus's Port Talbot and Llanwern sites.

As the demand for laminating work started to increase, it made sense for us to bring what was previously an outsourced finishing activity in-house.

Total PFS has been a supplier of finishing equipment to Corus for a number of years, so we approached the company again to advise us on the best laminating system for our organisation and requirements.

We looked at a number of machines, however, decided that the RSH-1650 best suited our business needs." And Davies explained: "The RSH-1650 has given us the flexibility to laminate-on-demand and turn-around jobs at short notice.

At present we are producing 30 jobs a month for various departments in Corus but this is expected to significantly increase as the word is spread throughout the group." The RSH-1650 wide format laminator is claimed to be capable of laminating and encapsulating films of up to 1,650mm wide at speeds of up to two metres a minute.

The laminating film is heated by a double hot roller and the quality of the rollers also allows cold lamination for heat sensitive applications, providing both hot and cold laminating and encapsulation applications.

Total PFS said that the machine also has digital controls to manage temperature variations, along with speed and reverse controls.

Its versatility also enables it to laminate rigid or flexible substrates, including foam board of up to 15mm, laminating individual or multiple copies of poster prints, signs and training aids, as well as inkjet, photographic and floor graphics.

The company added that the RSH-1650 is easy to use with one button starting its operation and a standard remote control foot pedal provide hands-free operation.

Commenting on the service Corus has received from Total PFS, Davies said: "We are always very impressed with Total PFS's customer support.

We have previously bought an extensive range of finishing equipment from Total PFS including binders, guillotines, hole punches and an A3 laminator and we have always been happy with each product's performance.

The installation process of the RSH-1650 went very smoothly and it was delivered ahead of schedule." And he added: "Total PFS also arranged training directly with the machine's manufacturer and again, that was problem-free and has been invaluable in terms of getting the best from our staff and the laminator.

We are very happy with the machine and our continued relationship with Total PFS as a key supplier of finishing equipment." Clive Richardson, managing director of Total PFS replied: "Corus is a great example of how bringing finishing in-house can help streamline processes and maximise quality and performance.

This installation comes on the back of a variety of different Corus purchases over the years and we are happy to be able to assist and work with such a huge organisation.

We believe that providing our customers with consultation and assessing their specific needs is the only way to ensure they truly benefit from the right systems.".
