Ultrachem has launched XCP Pressguard, a corrosion protection fluid for all parts of a printing press, from cylinders and plate clamps to bearers and side frames.

Manufactured by Scottish company Marott Graphic Services, Pressguard is already approved by KBA and MPA Darmstadt.

With other approvals pending for the product, Ultrachem said it sees great possibilities for Pressguard in its growing portfolio of corrosion inhibiting pressroom chemistry.

According to Marott Graphic Services' commercial director, Scott Sutherland: "Although there are plenty generic corrosion inhibiting greases and oils on the market, from the very beginning of product development this has been designed with a printing press application in mind.

The protection given by the product is specifically formulated around all the metal surfaces found on a modern printing press." He added: "The product is very easily applied and, used as part of planned maintenance, it will protect the press against corrosion which, in turn, can result in higher residual values.

It can also increase press reliability, reducing the risks of press downtime for repairs and potentially costly replacements." Ultrachem technical manager, Alan Thomas, commented: "Corrosion protection and inhibiting press chemistry is becoming more of the norm in the UK market.

We are very excited about the prospects of XCP Pressguard and feel that this will place us at the leading edge of an increasingly important product category.".
