EUR100m Spend Improves Paper Ranges
After completing modernisation work on two of its fine paper machines in autumn 2006, UPM will present an upgraded and expanded range of office papers at Paperworld in Frankfurt (Germany).
The mill, which produces 100 per cent recycled newsprint for newspaper publishers, recycles more than 700,000 tonnes of waste paper annually.
David Ingham, vice president and general manager for UPM Shotton said: "Receiving the awards for best regional factory and best process plant underlines the commitment of the workforce to continuous improvement and the hard work and efforts of all the employees.
We're delighted to have been nominated, let alone take first place in a number of categories." The paper mill was also highly commended for the best supply chain award for its recovered paper procurement and paper recycling facility.
The best factory award programme is run by Cranfield School of Management.
The scheme recognises manufacturing companies with pioneering work practices.
Dr Marek Szwejczewski, director of the best factory awards, said the awards are vital in tracking the state of British manufacturing.
He added: "Not only does the scheme promote and reward manufacturing excellence in the UK to increase our international competitiveness, but it provides entrants with valuable benchmarking information.
This enables performance shortfalls to be identified and improved practices to be introduced to close the gap between current performance and the best performance in the industry.".
