High Volume, Multi-Purpose Papers At Paperworld

UPM said it will demonstrate a strong presence at Paperworld 2007.

UPM said it will demonstrate a strong presence at Paperworld 2007.

Following investments at two of its fine paper mills, the company will highlight a number of new papers, improved grades and the re-launch of its Yes and Future brands.

Central themes of UPM's trade fair participation are the office paper ranges UPM Office, Yes and Future, the company's postal papers UPM Mail and UPM Preprint, as well as the digital printing papers UPM Digi.

Revealed at the show will be three newly developed high-volume multi-purpose papers.

With their whiteness levels (CIE 168), UPM Office Multifunction Plus, Future Multitech Plus and Yes Silver star are claimed to achieve outstanding colour contrasts.

Thanks to their high bulk, stiffness and surface smoothness, UPM said that the papers provide reliable performance during printing.

The FSC certified papers are available in A4 and A3.

The multi-purpose papers Office Multifunction, Future Multitech and Yes Silver multifunction feature increased performance in multi-functional print applications.

Their smoother surfaces reproduce more details from images and graphs and transmit a high-quality touch and feel, said the company.

The improved CIE whiteness of 164 gives better colour contrasts and better colour reproduction.

The more even formation contributes to an enhanced visual appearance and all three papers are PEFC certified and available on the market in A4 and A3 as of Q4 2006, added UPM.

Following the trend towards high-performance laser printers, UPM said it offers an optimised range of colour laser papers.

The company has improved the production formulae for its colour laser papers, UPM Office colour laser, Yes Color copy and Future Imagetech with the objective of increasing their bulk and achieving a CIE whiteness value of 164.

That results in sharper colour contrasts, finer detail reproductions and better runnability on colour laser printers and copiers using dry toner technology, said UPM.

The papers' extra-smooth surface are suitable for colour documents that need to be of extra fine quality, such as brochures, invitations or presentations.

For the user, the transparent, re-sealable packaging is practical, protecting the paper when only a few sheets need to be removed at a time for special applications, added the company.

The papers are available in basis weights ranging from 90gsm - 270gsm and in A4 and A3 sizes.

Office papers with ecological plus Eco-labels are for consumers who want to make environmentally sustainable choices when purchasing office papers.

That is why UPM said it has expanded its offer of both FSC and PEFC certified office papers.

Along with the certified papers from its Yes and Future ranges, five grades from the UPM Office brand range will be available with the FSC or PEFC label during this year.

Rita Lembeck, UPM's business manager for office papers, said: "This means that we have been granted the right to use the FSC or PEFC labels for more than three quarters of our grades." UPM said that it is also one of the first paper producers in Europe to have been granted the EU Flower for all of its office papers.

Since autumn 2006, all UPM Office, Yes and Future packs carry the EU Flower label as proof of their compliance with strict regulations on raw material, energy and water consumption, emissions, waste management, certified fibre content and use of chemicals.

Claimed to be a new way to promote sustainable consumption is UPM's new offer of 75gsm papers.

Martina Schurmann, marketing manager for graphic and office papers at UPM, said: "The 75gsm papers offer the same printing area as papers with higher substances but require less raw material and energy.

They also generate less waste in the office." Available in 75gsm are UPM Office Multifunction, Future Multitech and Yes Silver multifunction and Office Multifunction Plus, Future Multitech Plus and Yes Silver Star, on request.

Ruud van den Berg, UPM's senior vice president of sales and marketing for fine papers, commented: "Paperworld 2007 is a special highlight for us.

The EUR100 million investment in state-of-the-art production technology at our fine paper mills - Nordland Papier in Germany and Papeteries de Docelles in France - which were completed last autumn, puts UPM in an excellent position to provide long-term support for our customers by offering them a versatile range of superior quality office papers." He added: "The additions to our portfolio are mainly aimed at meeting the ever-increasing requirements placed by the office paper market on colour, speed and multi-function.

We are presenting the outcome of our development work of the past few months at Paperworld.".
