An UPM-Kymmene Corporation product story

Time Inc's annual review of the environmental performance of its paper suppliers has resulted in UPM's top score securing the environmental supplier award for the second successive year.

The 2007 report on UPM said that the company is focused on efficiency and operationally sound.

The report also highlighted the successful partnerships between Time and UPM on such initiatives as increasing the volume of certified wood fibre and, in North America, launching a biodiversity study in the Canadian forest.

According to UPM, Time holds suppliers accountable for environmental performance and conducts a review each year using its sustainable development report card.

The report covers forestry practices, manufacturing, energy and waste, global issues and reporting, as well as environmental performance indicators and people.

Phil Riebel, UPM North America's director of environmental affairs, commented: "UPM has focused on achieving top performance and a high level of third-party-verified certification in our forest and mill operations.

This ensures our customers can have confidence that UPM's paper products have an overall low environmental footprint, from the forest to the final product." He added: "This is also recognition that UPM employees in every sector of the operation are demonstrating genuine commitment to the quality of their own work and the environment.".
