Buyers Laboratory (BLI) and UPM are to evaluate the performance of UPM's cutsize papers in the BLI test lab in Wokingham (UK).

First test reports will be available for UPM's Yes Silver multi-function papers during April 2008, which will identify the paper's ability to run on each imaging device that has been tested by BLI On test will be the latest printers and copiers available on the market, ranging from GBP100 personal printers to GBP250,000 production machines

UPM's papers will be tested for runability, printability and packaging issues.

Paivi Forsberg, development manager for office papers at UPM, explained: "Having our papers tested by an independent lab will be of high value for our distribution partners and consumers.

It is especially vital for high-end volume users to know how paper performs on their machines.

Any paper jam costs them time and money and, moreover, it will help UPM to evaluate how our paper performs on recently launched printing and copying machines." As a consequence of the testing agreement, UPM will be BLI's lead supplier for multi-functional grades for the coming months, said the company.

David Sweetnam, European laboratory and research manager at BLI, explained: "Paper has an impact on the performance of a printer, or copier.

Results are truly comparable if you use the same paper in all tests across all machines." BLI is an independent office-equipment test laboratory and has been operating in the USA since 1961 and in the UK since 2005.
