A new scheme to identify the honest brokers of the utilities industry will help the printing industry find the best deals on energy from professional suppliers.

A new scheme to identify the honest brokers of the utilities industry will help the printing industry find the best deals on energy from professional suppliers.

That is according to UK energy consultancy Utility Auditing, which said that Ofgem, the government energy regulator, has applauded the launch of the new Utilities Intermediaries Association (UIA).

UIA has introduced a new 'boat mark' to help customers identify utilities brokers who will deliver a professional service.

The formation of UIA is an important step in regulating the industry and the organisation is committed to driving up standards in energy brokerage and consultancy and taking to task any rogue operators, said Utility Auditing.

At the launch of UIA, Ofgem said: "We welcome the UIA initiative as the first step to the self-regulation of third party intermediaries in the energy market.

We hope that the code of practice increases consumer confidence - giving customers the assurance that their independent representative is acting with their best interests in mind." Utility Auditing is one of the first brokers in the industry to be accepted in to the UIA.

Jeff Wealands, technical director for Utility Auditing and a UIA council member, said: "Energy, water and telecommunications are now some of the most expensive business overheads, which is why the vast majority of businesses use brokers to help them find the most competitive deals.

Now they can have confidence that if they see the UIA 'boat mark' that they will receive professional and transparent service and access to a process of redress.".
