Mount Royal' pressroom supervisor, Steve Brinkman, said: "I'm using my ink, not wasting it." Before the installation Brinkman hand mixed around 20, half-pund PMS colours per day, which was a laborious and time consuming task with a lot of wastage.

Commonly half a pound of ink was too much for the job but it happened to be the minimum he could mix to get an accurate match by hand.

The dispenser now enables Brinkman to mix the exact amount he needs, which is often one ounce, without wastage.

He commented that the machine will CD14A cartridge fed ink dispenser will pay for itself in 24 months with the reduction in ink, disposal and labour costs.

The Vale-Tech CD14A is designed to accommodate Sonoco four pound, or eight pound cartridges pre-filled with the Pantone base range available from most ink manufacturers.

It comes pre-loaded with the Pantone database and, according to Vale Tech, it is virtually plug and play, allowing fully automated dispensing of any PMS or custom colour.
