Videojet Technologies has acquired Alltec GmbH, a German manufacturer of laser systems for coding and marking.

The company believes that the acquisition of Alltec gives Videojet a strong position in what it sees as the quickly growing laser coding market, and positions Videojet as a single source supplier for virtually any coding or marking need.

"Alltec's product line and engineering expertise will enable Videojet to offer an even broader range of coding options to our customers, and deliver even more value and product knowledge to the market place," said Robert Willett, president of coding and marking for Videojet.

Alltec provides a variety of laser markers, including CO2 and Nd:YAG models, which complement the Videojet Focus brand laser markers.

Videojet believes that the Alltec products within the Videojet family will provide customers with the leading products in the two most common small character printing technologies of continuous ink jet and laser printing.

Global technical service and support, efficient administration, improved distribution and customer care, as well as efficient spares management would also result from the development claimed Videojet.

"Videojet and Alltec share similar philosophies that place high importance on outstanding people and superior market- and customer-driven programs," said Dr Bernhard Steyer, the founder and president of Alltec, who has now become the business manager of the combined Alltec and Videojet laser activities.

He added that product development and technology advancements would make progress through the deal.

Alltec's headquarters in Selmsdorf, Germany would also receive future investment from Videojet as the global centre of the combined businesses laser printing operations.
