Online Real-Time Proofing Eliminates Hard Copies

The growth of online, real-time colour proofing of printing projects has led to increased sales of Vio Worldwide's Integrated Color Solutions' Remote Director.

Vio claimed that increasing numbers of publishers, advertising agencies, brand owners and printers are using Remote Director to provide colour file review and verification accuracy, which allows Vio VCSP users to review and approve colour proofs and high-end colour advertisements collaboratively in real-time, online.

The company said it began working with Integrated Color Solutions ICS and Remote Director in 2005, when it developed and installed VCSP, which is claimed to be the world's first colour-managed, pre-flighted and certified digital supply chain for colour advertising.

At Associated Newspapers in the UK and at that group's advertising supplier sites, the system demonstrated the feasibility of reducing the cost of sending colour advertisements to newspapers without compromising on quality, colour integrity and whilst maintaining the security of hard copy proofs, added Vio.

The company said that since then, VCSP has become a proven system for other publications, as well as those submitting advertisements.

Vio has implemented the workflow system with companies throughout the industry, amongst them the Telegraph Media Group, News International, the UK subsidiary of News Corporation and, more recently, Mirror Group Newspapers, Trinity Mirror's national newspaper operation in the UK.

According to Vio, News International has reported that VCSP and Remote Director are ensuring customers can send digital files that meet the publications' colour requirements, whilst giving the company's operations team a detailed record of the submission.

Mirror Group said that VCSP and Remote Director have helped the company to achieve its aims of providing colour print quality for advertisers, making the submission process as easy as possible and reducing the cost to the advertiser by up to 90 per cent, it is claimed .

Vio believes that as the acceptance of monitor proofing has continued to grow, publications worldwide have chosen and installed Remote Director as their preferred monitor proofing system.

Remote Director is claimed to provide time-saving and file integrity assurance, including cross-platform and cross-monitor colour accuracy through to SWOP and GRACoL standard support and real-time collaboration.

The company added that an increasing number of workflow system suppliers and their customers are eliminating hard copy proofs and the courier services that carried them.
