Watkiss Automation has launched the Mini Bookmaker, said to be an affordable near-line booklet making system for digital print applications.

The Mini Bookmaker accepts the output of multiple printers - sequentially printed digital mono, digital colour or offset - converting digital print into finished booklets said Watkiss.

The printed sheets are automatically gathered in the required sequence and processed through booklet maker to produce finished booklets.

Paul Attew, sales director at Watkiss explained: "For some years we have sold the document finishing system to larger digital printers but we recognise the need to provide similar benefits for the low to mid range printers also.

To that end we've developed the Mini Bookmaker which offers an affordable solution for lower volume users." The Mini Bookmaker is a modular system, giving customers the option to upgrade or enlarge the system if requirements change.

It has two, three or four feeders using Watkiss' patented Slimva feed system, combining air blast separation with rotary suction feed.

The result is claimed to be reliable and gentle feeding of a wide range of stocks from delicate digital print to glossy coated cover stocks.

The gathered sheets are then passed into the on-line Bookmaster booklet maker where they are stapled and folded.

The Bookmaster staple-fold booklet maker and trimmer combine maximum performance with cost effectiveness claimed Watkiss.

They are simple to operate and have a low impact stapling mechanism that ensures virtually maintenance free operation.

The main wearing parts are included in the staple cartridge and are replaced every 5,000 cycles when the cartridge is changed.

The online Trimmaster trimmer is an option that can be purchased at the outset, or added at any time.

Watkiss said that the Mini Bookmaker is easy to afford and suited to small and medium sized printers where fast turn-around on-demand printing makes in-house finishing essential.
