Book Making And Finishing Systems At Digital Show

A Watkiss Automation Sales Limited product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Aug 15, 2007

The Watkiss Powersquare book making machine, the Document Finishing System and Watkiss's Digivac collating and finishing system will be on show on stand 351 at Digital Print World.

Watkiss said that all those products are innovative and designed to maximise efficiency, flexibility and profitability in finishing operations.

Powersquare is a book making system for digital print applications and produces Squareback books up to 200 pages thick, added Watkiss.

That is double the specification of alternative conventional booklet making machines, making the Powersquare200 a fast and cost effective alternative to perfect binding or spine taping, believes the company.

Because Powersquare will also produce books from only a few sheets, it provides a single book making system for documents from eight pages through to 200 pages.

The Document Finishing System (DFS) is a multi-function finisher, which operates as a sheet feeder, cover inserter and booklet-maker for electronically collated sets.

It can also be used as a standard collator and booklet-maker for batch-printed sets, added Watkiss.

It operates off-line or on-line to a range of cut-sheet digital printers, allowing printing and booklet making in one operation.

The on-line and off-line capability, as well as the ability to combine the output from multiple print sources is claimed to ensures flexibility and utilisation of finishing resources.

The DFS also features a barcode reader and variable data option.

Digivac is claimed by Watkiss to be the only collating system to feed sheets from the bottom of the stack.

That gives the benefit of continuous operation, with no downtime for bin reloading.

The result is higher production, greater ease of use and lower capital outlay.

The Digivac is available with eight or 12 stations and a choice of booklet making options.

Watkiss's Spinemaster will also be demonstrated at Digital Print World, which runs from October 16 - 18 at Earls Court, London (UK).

The system will be seen running on-line to the Document Finishing System and the Digivac.

The company believes that the Spinemaster has revolutionised the booklet making market, with its square-spined stitched booklets (Squareback books) now the accepted standard.

Paul Attew, Watkiss's sales director said: "Innovation isn't just about the technology, its about new ideas and methods and how you use them to stay ahead of the competition.

Its challenging how you approach your workflow and that includes how you finish your printed jobs.".
