A five-colour KBA Rapida 162a press is the first of 10 printing presses that are to be installed in Winkowski's new printing centre.

A five-colour KBA Rapida 162a press is the first of 10 printing presses that are to be installed in Winkowski's new printing centre According to the company's plans there will be six sheet-fed presses, 12 heatset presses, three CTP systems and numerous post-press and expedition equipment installed in Wyszkow

The whole investment in a new printing and logistics centre (except ground and real estate expenses) will cost 40m Euros.

More than 1,200 people will be employed there before the year 2010.

A new KBA Rapida 162a was the first new press installed and put in to production.

At the moment it is the biggest sheet-fed offset printing press running in Poland.

Last year a slightly smaller Rapida 162 press was delivered to Winkowski's facility in Pila.

The model contracted for Wyszkow is a five-colour press, offering 120cm x 162cm of printing image and a claimed speed of 13,000 sheets per hour.

At the same time, a new CTP system from Creo, based on the Magnus VLF platesetter, was put in to production.

The system offers a maximum plate size of 2050mm x 1510mm and is controlled by Prinergy Evo workflow.

It was bundled with a Glunz and Jensen processing line.

The company's Andrzej Platek said: "Presently our new press is used for printing large-format posters and billboards, as well as stands.

In terms of stands, we have an exceptional press on the Polish market.

until now, producing a large-format stand printed on corrugated board (up to 1.6mm) was impossible in Poland.

That kind of production was imported or made of a few pieces of material.

Now we can offer large-format stand printing from one sheet." Another Winkowski investment is the SPS Rehmus screenprinting line, which is used for finishing jobs printed on the Rapida.

According to Platek, the press is used for spot varnishing mainly and, he added: "Similarly to the KBA press, our screenprinting press is the biggest line of this kind in Poland." The new KBA Rapida press, CTP system and screeprinting line are just the beginning of equipment investment plans for Winkowski's plant in Wyszkow.

A new Ferag saddle-stitching line will be installed at the end of August and two high-volume heatset presses will de delivered before the end of the year.
