WLT Offers New Flexo Static Removal System
The supplier of static control systems to the flexography sector, WLT, is introducing a new web cleaning system designed for the elimination of static and dust prior to printing.
Static Control System Offers Data Logging
Bradford (UK) based WLT is launching a new static control device, the Performax, a double group of D bars which is the latest development from manufacturer Simco.
It is said to provide an extended range of performance to eliminate static charges even when installed up to 250mm from webs (depending on conditions) and up to 500mm on winders.
The system is also claimed to be capable of neutralising charged materials travelling at up to 2,500 feet per minute depending on conditions.
WLT said Performax 3 is suitable for film rolls, plastic sheets, paper, printing plates, rubber covered conveyor belts, packaging machines and web systems, for instance.

Hallmark Cards has launched its newly packed greeting cards in Marks and Spencer stores across the UK, thanks to the latest equipment from Advanced Dynamics.
It is said to have precise emitter spacing for maximum performance, along with detachable cable and daisy chain (bar-to-bar connection) capability.
A bar graph display indicates the system is neutralising the charged material and indicator lights display the status of the system, including when the static bar requires cleaning, or if there is a fault.
Current-limited emitter point design will not cause shocks to the machine operator if the points are touched when the static bar is on.
An LCD screen indicates when there is a charge, the performance of the bars and if there is a problem from dirty contacts.
The fault indicator automatically triggers an alert in the event of a faulty hard arc, cable damage, bar damage or power supply failure, which all trigger the device to shutdown, added WLT.
The system is claimed to provide better neutralisation of small targets with both +/- charges compared to other products.
Equipped with long life Hastalloy pins, it is available with a plug-in wall converter, remote on and off capability and a one piece connecting cable.
It can be connected to a PLC, to other machines, or to a computer for monitoring and data logging, the latter for when accurate historical monitoring records are useful.
Suitable for use in both hazardous and non-hazardous conditions, it is CE approved, UL listed and US rated as a Class I, Division 1, Group D approved.
WLT added that it recommends the Type A2A4 BHR high voltage generator, which can be used with a choice of Simco anti-static bars for users with more restricted budgets.
They include an MEB single bar, a Super Service anti static bar and the longer range EP-Sh-N, which is said to operate at distances of up to 150mm.
For very fast moving webs, WLT recommends the P-Sh-N-2 which needs a type LB.
WLT's director, Mike Essler said: "Performax 3 is a technology breakthrough and should provide significant cost savings via reduced production time, for those involved in film and sheet handling.".
