Specialists in bespoke labelling systems, Advanced Dynamics has designed and engineered an all-in-one labelling and reel-to-reel system for Paragon Group UK.

Operating stand-alone in Paragon's Sunderland premises, the roll-fed stock handling and labelling machine is applying protective labels to secure pin numbers for Barclaycard, MBNA and Marks and Spencer.

Developed specifically for Paragon, the machine is claimed to be the first to offer a complete solution.

Using programmable servo drives it reaches claimed speeds of 150 metres per minute with placement accuracy of plus or minus 0.5mm.

Made for large volume printing, the handling system accommodates rolls up to 1.25m in diameter, with a web width up to 500mm.

It has a heavy-duty pneumatic system to simplify loading and the operator interface is an eye level touch screen for ease of operation.

Production manager at Paragon, Dave Alexander, is delighted with the new system.

"The performance of the machine is exceptional, especially since it is the first of its kind.

The label placement integrity is ensured by a fibre-optic PLC that detects any missing labels and stops the machine automatically, which is extremely important for accurate production." Advanced Dynamics' joint managing director Malcolm Little is convinced that the roll-fed labelling system will generate a great deal of interest for printers, especially those involved with scratch codes.

"Since the introduction of chip and pin the demand for reel-to-reel and labelling systems has risen, yet to my knowledge, Advanced Dynamics is the only engineering company that supplies both in one bespoke machine," he said.

Dave Alexander contacted Advanced Dynamics following a recommendation and has never looked back.

We researched lots of companies before committing to Advanced Dynamics, but no other manufacturer could offer the solution we were looking for.

Without them we would have had to make do with two separate machines from two separate suppliers, which was far from ideal," he commented.
