Watson-Marlow pumps chosen at the finish

A Watson-Marlow Bredel Pumps product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Aug 22, 2008

When Boxes (Prestige) of Northampton, installed a Man Roland Twin Coating Unit, two Watson-Marlow Bredel 700 series pumps were chosen for metering metallic and pearl varnishes and lacquers.

Catering primarily for the high-quality end of the cosmetic and confectionery markets, Boxes (Prestige) Limited of Earls Baron, Northampton supply their customers with boxes and cartons in a unique variety of iridescent, sparkling and shimmering gold and silver finishes.

Boxes (Prestige) needs pumps that can deal with wide variations in viscosity.

It uses varnishes and lacquers containing gold and/or silver pigments in varying concentrations, and as well as often being highly viscous, they can also be abrasive.

Cleaning is also greatly simplified.

When changing colours or at the end of a run, cleaning involves no more than flushing out with cleaning fluid, which is water or solvent based, depending on whether the varnishes and lacquers are UV or aqueous.

Boxes (Prestige) has a total of five Watson-Marlow Bredel pumps in service.

There are two pumps incorporated in the new MAN Roland Twin Coater.

They are both fixed speed 701FB/R/RX pumps fitted with Marprene tubing, running at 77rpm.

The pumps meter the varnish or lacquer to the press and also scavenge the excess to return it to source before it begins to dry out.
